The Ai Academy is helping investment and business leaders, as well as policy makers, understand the evolution of climate investing in Africa to enhance their performance, competitiveness, and provide a fact base for decision-making at the continental level. The Academy’s Water investment initiatives and interventions have several goals, including establishing African water as a globally competitive investable asset class.
One of the main objectives is to support the International High-Level Panel on Water Investments for Africa in developing actionable pathways to mobilize at least $30 billion of private investment annually. This investment is needed to close the water investment gap in Africa. They aim to champion institutional investor-public partnerships to deploy private capital at speed for African water assets.

The AWIP is a key initiative in the Academy’s Water investment efforts. It provides a platform for investing in Africa’s water sector, with a focus on regulated water and waste water utilities. The platform’s general partner, WAM and Africa investor, work together to identify and invest in bankable water investment projects.
The Academy has partnered with Frost and Sullivan Africa to showcase Africa’s bankable project pipeline and investment potential in water and sanitation. This partnership has resulted in the creation of a Barometer on Africa’s Investment Potential in Water and Sanitation, which provides valuable insights into the continent’s water sector.
The Resilient Water Accelerator was launched by His Majesty King Charles III to attract blended climate investment at scale for its international portfolio of bankable water investment projects. The goal of the RWA is to boost resilience for water-stressed people in low- and middle-income countries.

The Academy’s initiatives will have a significant impact on the water sector in Africa, given the continent’s need for investment in this area. Establishing African water as a globally competitive investable asset class is a step in the right direction.
As the continent continues to face water-related challenges, initiatives like the AWIP and the RWA will play a significant role in attracting necessary investment to address these issues.
The Academy’s work is also supported by its partnership with other organizations, such as the Sustainable Markets Initiative. The SMI’s Task Force, which includes the RWA, aims to attract blended climate investment at scale for bankable water investment projects. This partnership is an example of collaborative efforts underway to address the water investment gap in Africa.
